The Louis Riel Institute (LRI) plays an important role in supporting a greater understanding and appreciation of the culture, heritage, and history of the Red River Métis. Strong community relations have led to the accumulation of many valuable records and collections connected to the Métis Nation.
Our physical and digital holdings include items related to Métis history, culture, and languages. We are increasing our capacity to responsibly care for our collections, facilitate community access, and ensure cultural protocols are upheld.
We are committed to supporting the evolving needs of the Manitoba Métis Community, the Manitoba Métis Government, Manitobans, and stakeholders such as the Federal and Provincial Governments, educational institutions, private and non-profit organizations, archival institutions, historical societies, and museums.
