Louis Riel Institute Historic Métis Tours

Celebrate & Discover Manitoba's Métis Heritage, History and Culture!

We offer several different Métis tours year around including bus and walking tours. Our engaging guides are dressed in historic clothing and will take you on a journey through time and teach you about the rich Métis history in Manitoba.

Here are a couple tours that we offer:

Birth of a Nation

This bus tour reveals the Battle of Seven Oaks and the Métis perspective on the Pemmican Wars and the escalating fur trade disputes between the Hudson's Bay Company and the North West Company. The Battle of Seven Oaks took place in 1816, where the Métis showed their unity and strength by fighting for the first time together as one nation under the Métis flag.

Birth of a Province

This bus tour reveals the events that led up to the Red River Resistance and the birth of Manitoba in 1870. The resistance was a conflict between Louis Riel's Provisional Government and Canada.

A Métis Walk

Walk with us as we talk about Métis history and culture throughout Winnipeg and learn about our deep roots. We can accommodate walking tours and visit sites, streets and so much more.
